Ashwin Srinivasan is a professional flute and sitar player based out of the capital of Maharashtra, Mumbai. Born in a family of musicians, Ashwin was attracted to Indian classical music when he was just two years old. He started learning sitar from his mother. But he took a fascination for the 'bansuri' (bamboo flute) at the age of seven and since then there was no looking back! He learned the techniques of bansuri from Shri Pundalik Shenoy and Shri Venkatesh Godkhindi. He has also trained under legendary violinist, Padmabhushan Dr Smt N Rajam, in Mumbai. He has won a lot of praises and accolades as a child prodigy, and today, he is the most sought-after flutist in Mumbai. One of the youngest A-Graded artists with All India Radio and a recipient of the Sur-Mani award, Ashwin has performed in many classical concerts and festivals such as the Panchakshari Gavai Mahotsav, and Gandharv Mahavidyalaya Smriti Mahotsav. He is an integral part of Bollywood and has performed all over the world with almost all leading musicians of India. He has collaborated with artists like Nitin Sawhney (UK), Joss Stone, Anoushka Shankar, and Imogen Heap. His fusion album, ‘Ashwin and The Bombay Project’, was highly appreciated amongst musicians and fans alike. He has also featured in many of Mira Nair’s films such as 'The Namesake', 'Amelia', 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist', and 'Queen of Katwe', etc. Currently, he is working with the Oscar winner AR Rahman’s band.
