Rohit Anand is a professional flautist based out of the capital city of India, New Delhi. He studied music under the prestigious Guru-shishya parampara (mentor-disciple tradition) in Indian music at the Maihar gharana, Rohit learnt the aesthetics of Hindustani classical music under the guidance of maestros like Pt Ravi Shankar, Late Smt Sharan Rani Backliwal, and Ustad Aashish Khan. Being a philanthropist, he studied the effects of music on the human body and mind and is a successful practitioner of music therapy. Rohit is a disciple of sarod maestro, Ustad Ashish Khan (grandson of Acharya Baba Allauddin Khan and son of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan) from the Maiher gharana. He also learnt the dhrupad ang style of singing from Pt Krishna Datt Sharma. Rohit joined Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in New Delhi to further nurture his talent, but his zeal to learn music took him to the legendary sitar maestro, Late Pt Ravi Shankar. After that, Rohit studied sarod and music under maestro, Smt Sharan Rani. Rohit later learnt how to play the flute and made some of the finest flutes in the country. He owns the patent of having made the world's smallest Indian bamboo flute that can play up to two octaves and measures only six inches. This flute got him registered in the Limca Book of Records, 2000. Presently, Rajat is working on a book titled 'Contemporary Evolution of Indian Bamboo Flute (Aesthetic)'. He teaches numerous students in India and abroad the art of playing the flute. Recently, he launched a CD on Indian classical and fusion music in Australia and Singapore, titled 'Indian City'. He is also an empanelled artist in Central Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi. He has given interviews to numerous TV Channels, lecture demonstrations, and workshops in many colleges and schools. He conducted a seminar at DIPR (Defence Institute of Psychological Research) at the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) campus, Timarpur, New Delhi. In 2002, he worked as a music director for Jahan-e-Khusro – a Muzaffar Ali production. He has composed music for artists like Abida Parveen (Pakistani Sufi singer), Sufis of Sudan, Shubha Mudgal, etc. In 2003, Rohit was invited by the Department of Tourism, Rajasthan, to perform for several famous festivals like the Desert Festival in Jaisalmer. He runs his own organization called 'Aware' – an association of World's Art and Research for Enlightenment. He is also an art consultant for the Rakhmaninov Music Club.
